This moving unfinished stone statue provides a fascinating glimpse of the Egyptian creative process. It appears to be a portrait of a king, possibly Seti II of Dynasty 19 (1200-1194 BC). The eyes, the nose, the lips, the smile, the expression of the face, the angle and the general construction of this statuette, suggest that it may have been a study, made by the sculptor to prepare for the life-size quartzite seated-statue of Seti II found in Karnak by Belzoni, and now in the British Museum (See Clayton 1994:159).
