This gilded wooden statuette of an undetermined king or high level official dates back to the earliest part of the Old Kingdom, no later than the beginning of Dynasty 4.
With unusually broad shoulders, marked upright demeanor, arms pressed along the body and his muscular legs together while seated on a throne (now missing), this man projects the poise of a high dignitary or even a king.
This closely resembles the statue of Hemon, Khufus master builder (# 1962, Hildesheim Museum). However, in a departure from monumental tradition, the fists of this statuette are pressed against the upper outside face of each thigh.
