This bronze statuette depicts Queen Isis as the goddess Isis, wearing the crown of Hathor, nursing the future Thutmose III as the infant Horus. The hieroglyphs on the pedestal read: “Isis the goddess gives life to rise Horus the living son of Isis.”
Of a stone statuette of Queen Isis now in the Cairo Museum [# JE 37417], Maspero wrote: “The statuette of Queen Isis reveals the origin of the facial traits that were to prevail amongst the following three generations of Ahmessides: hooked nose, large eyes flush to the cheekbone, full lips, round face” (Maspero 1912:176). [Note: the Ahmesside kings were Thutmose III, Amenhotep II, and Thutmose IV, plus perhaps Amenhotep III and Tutankhamun].
Isis (queen)
Queen Isis was not the Great Royal Spouse of Thotmes II, but either a distinguished Lady of the royal harem, or a politically welcome foreign princess. She gave birth to the future King Tuthmosis III, who became king thanks to his marriage to the daughter of the ruling Queen Hatshepsut, the Royal Princess Merit-Ra (Hatshepsut II), future mother of the next king, Amenhotep II. The mummy of Queen Isis was found in a cache at Deihr-el-Bahri and is now resting in the Cairo Museum.
