This extensible bracelet was made of two intertwined strands of bronze. It came from Persia, where Parthians reigned from 250 BC to 224 AD.
Seibert (1974:82) documents a similar type of bracelet found at Dura Europos as one of a precious few examples of jewelry
which survived from the Parthian times.
Also seen in item #277 of this collection, this extensible design is so brilliant that it is still copied today. It offers both the advantages of a open C bracelet (by providing some give when sliding it on the arm), and the advantages of a closed bracelet (wont catch on anything, wont dig into the wrist, and remains beautiful all around), by capturing the extremities and maintaining a roughly constant thickness all around.
