This is a fine bronze statuette of the cat goddess Bastet, who originated in the city of Bubastis in the Delta, where her great temple and main institution were built and a very popular annual festival was held in her honor.
Under Dynasty 26, Egyptians started to portray goddess Bastet simply as a cat, sometimes adorned with a gold earring. The earring on this artifact has been replaced in modern times.
