Prehistoric axe, Merimde, c. 5100 BC22
  This bronze ax blade, originally mounted on a wooden staff, exhibits ornamental openwork and raised reinforcing moldings. This type of ax, made in the Middle East as early as the beginning of the second millennium BC, was also found in Ugarit (today Ras-Shamra, Syria). Middle East, 2000 BC.
