  This small votive representation of a bull in bronze comes from the Cavern of Zeus, on the Lassithi Plateau in eastern Crete.

“Not until 1880 was the cavern discovered by the islanders, on the hillsides of mount Dicte, and not until then was it recognized as one of the earliest worship sites in Crete. In niches and cracks of stalactites in the lower cave, a great number of such small bronze bulls was found, which date from 1600 BC approximately" (Alexiou 1967).
